Computing
Computing Curriculum KS1 and 2
Our Lower School computing curriculum aims to provide our pupils with a broad, play-based experience of computing in a range of contexts. Pupils gain confidence, control and language skills through opportunities to ‘paint’ on interactive board/devices or control remotely operated toys. Pupils are taught to communicate safely and respectfully online, keeping personal information private, and to recognise common uses of information technology beyond school. As our pupils progress through lower school and make the transition to upper school they will learn to organise, store, manipulate and retrieve data in a range of digital formats.
Computing Curriculum KS3
Our computing curriculum equips pupils with the capability to use technology while at school and into adulthood. We teach pupils to become responsible, respectful and competent users of data, information and communication technology. Strong emphasis is given to online safety across our computing curriculum and is also embedded in the wider whole school approach in line with government guidance.
Our KS3 computing curriculum aims to instil critical thinking, reflective learning and a ‘can do’ attitude, particularly when engaging with technology and its associated resources. The curriculum links progressively to KS4 where pupils will undertake qualifications based on knowledge and skills learned in key stages 2 and 3.
Computing Curriculum KS4
Our computing curriculum enthuses pupils and equips them with the capability to use technology into adulthood. We teach pupils to become responsible, respectful and competent users of data, information and communication technology. Pupils are given access to a variety of high quality hardware, software and practical resources, providing an exciting, rich and relevant curriculum for all of our pupils.
KS4 pupils work towards a Functional Skills qualification that is designed to provide them with the skills to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education and everyday life. They will understand a range of ways to use technology safely, respectfully, responsibly and securely; including protecting their online identity and privacy, recognising inappropriate content, contact and conduct, and knowing how to report concerns.
Computing Curriculum KS5
KS5 students work towards a BTEC First qualification at Levels 1 and 2 in Information and Creative Technology. They gain a broad understanding and knowledge of the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative industries e.g. electronic publishing or multimedia production. The curriculum promotes personal development, motivation and confidence, through practical participation and by giving students responsibility for their own projects. On completion, students are supported into a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic course or, alternatively, into an apprenticeship.
